Call for papers

We to invite you to present your research in the form of:

  • a poster presentation
  • a live demonstration
  • a short oral presentations (a two-minute pitch).

Poster sessions

This event is a great opportunity to present your research to the entire faculty as a PhD student. Other researchers are welcome to present their work as well. As people from different departments will be present, make sure your poster is understandable to an engineering crowd.

Requirements

Researchers can submit an A0 poster and corresponding abstract (minimum 100 and maximum 300 words) through the submission platform. You print the poster yourself and bring it to the venue, where you can discuss your work with all attendants. We will provide the required materials to set up your poster.

Online Proceedings

All submitted posters and abstracts will be included in an online repository, with a unique digital object identifier (DOI) per poster. The symposium's proceedings will be made available on the Biblio platform.

Review

Posters will go through a light-touch review process to make sure they meet the requirements.

Training Through Doctoral Schools

A hands-on one-day workshop on how to make a scientific poster is organized by Doctoral Schools, with Doctoral Schools credits for PhD students.

Live demonstations

This event is a wonderful way to demonstrate your research and get feedback from your peers in the process. We will provide separate booths for each demonstration, which can be accompanied by a poster or a presentation.

Requirements

Researchers can submit an abstract of the work (minimum 100 and maximum 300 words) through the submission platform, along with the requirements for the demonstration. We will provide the required materials to set up your demonstration, such as a screen and an extension cord. Please note that we cannot accommodate areas larger than 3 m2 per demonstration. You are also encouraged to submit a poster to supplement your demonstration.

All submitted abstracts will be included in an online repository, with a unique DOI per demonstration. The symposium's proceedings will be made available on the UGent Biblio website.

Pitch sessions

This event is a wonderful way to exercise your communication skills. For two minutes, you get the stage to talk about your favourite research topic, highlighting its importance to the audience. Researchers presenting a poster or giving a demonstration can also use this platform to draw interested peers to their booth.

Requirements

Researchers can submit an abstract (minimum 100 and maximum 300 words) through the submission platform, along with one optional slide (PDF format). While we will not time your pitch to the second, we do ask you to respect the foreseen time of two minutes per pitch.

All submitted abstracts and slides will be included in an online repository, with a unique DOI per pitch. The symposium's proceedings will be made available on the Biblio platform.
